Clinical notes

How to try an AI scribe without changing your whole day

A polished sample note is easy to like. The real question is whether the scribe helps with the visits you see all day—and whether you spend less time getting each note ready to sign.

Compare the complete note-writing task: capture, draft, correction, review, and getting the note into your EHR. A quick draft is useful only if the rest of the work fits.

Bring a visit that sounds like your practice.

Use a fictional visit that reflects your everyday work. A family medicine visit might cover several concerns. A behavioral health conversation may be less linear. A pulmonary follow-up may include changes since the last visit. Ask to see your preferred note structure, not just the vendor’s default.

Include a correction in the conversation: a date changes, a patient clarifies a symptom, or you revise a plan. Watch how the draft handles it. This shows more than a perfectly rehearsed exchange.

Read it like you’re about to sign it.

Check whether the draft separates what the patient said from what you observed and decided. Look for missing details, incorrect attribution, and information that was never discussed. A fluent sentence can still be wrong.

You remain responsible for the final clinical record. Ask how to edit a draft, discard one, and handle a visit you do not want captured. Review your consent and data-handling requirements with the appropriate people in your practice before a live trial.

Follow the note all the way into the EHR.

“Works with your EHR” can describe several different workflows. Have the vendor show which patient is selected, where the note appears, which fields transfer, and what you still do yourself. An integration name alone does not answer those questions.

ScribeSync is integrated with eMedicalPractice and eDental today. Other EHR integrations can be arranged. We’ll confirm the workflow and setup for your system before you decide.

  • Does the draft follow the structure you use?
  • Can you quickly correct the parts that need attention?
  • Where does the reviewed note appear in your EHR?
  • Who can access the recording and draft, and how long are they kept?

Measure the time that matters to you.

In an approved trial, track the total time to review, edit, and finish comparable notes. Write down the corrections you make repeatedly. Include setup and transfer steps. If a tool saves typing but adds cleanup elsewhere, you want to know that early.

ScribeSync prepares a draft from the visit conversation for your review. It also offers phone coverage, billing support, and dental charting, but start the evaluation with the note itself. The other features should solve a problem your team actually has.
